The outcome of COP21 lived up to the promise of the opening day, during which more than 150 heads of state and government met in Paris to express their commitment to climate protection and a lasting agreement. In particular, the agreement provides a strong and legally binding framework for reporting, transparency and implementation review, which can spur greater ambition in the fight against climate change. The establishment of a mechanism to facilitate implementation and promote compliance with the rules will continue to ensure the action of the parties. The world has made tremendous progress since the adoption of the Paris climate agreement in 2015.
